About AJ’s

Nestled in Alberton North is AJ’s – a factory dedicated to the manufacturing of diced garlic, a variety of sauces, pickles and diced chillies.

The original idea to start making garlic came to Andries Johannes van der Merwe (AJ) in 2006. At that time he worked on the fresh produce market from 4AM to 12PM and had to get something to keep him busy. One day he politely told his children that the jacuzzi room could no longer be used. It was to become his first factory. He packed the first batch of garlic in a beer box and took it with him to the market. It was one of the top moments in his career when the first person saw the box and asked if he was selling it. Just there he made his first sale.

Since then the business has grown, and now not only deals in garlic but also in several sauces, spreads, and pickles. AJ’s now supply their products all through South Africa, and even beyond the borders of SA.
